Oh, this one’s hard, because I don’t know anything about phones (like models, styles, and stuff like that).

Elafi has a functional and not-too-expensive smartphone, just enough to have a few games and be able to call Warrick in an emergency. I imagine it looks exactly like it did when it came out of the box, with a transparent case and nothing inside. Maybe someone could convince him to keep a photo in there.

Warrick, like Elafi, has a functional and basic smartphone that he only uses to make and receive calls, send and receive messages, and read the news. Zero decorations. One corner of the screen is cracked, but it doesn’t affect visibility, so he hasn’t bothered to fix it.

Fidi would have the most aesthetic phone ever. She probably downloaded an app to install cute themes, and all her icons are neatly arranged and organized. She even painted her phone case design herself.

Tigri would definitely have a wallpaper of some anime or video game character he likes, lots of downloaded games, and a phone case that fits his tastes. His screen protector is full of scratches too, since he sometimes accidentally damages it with his claws.

Elafi: After everything that’s happened, he’s started to question the pros and cons of his upbringing. He knows his parents did the best they could, that they only wanted to protect him and meant no harm; but he’s also learned to acknowledge that he still has a lot of growing to do. Good thing he has Warrick to finish raising him!

Warrick: It’s not something I have thought much about. I guess his upbringing was fairly normal. He gets along fine with both his parents, who still live together somewhere in the country. He also always got along great with his brother, and they were a close family until Devin’s death pushed him to isolate himself completely.

A part of Fidi thinks that if she had stayed with her family, life would’ve been very hard for her alone, as her family tends to have a conformist mindset that always clashed with her creative and ambitious thinking. Why the Time Bandits remake makes me feel an angry despair (1)

I announced it before: I am mounting my high horses for this matter.

"Time Bandits" is a children fantasy movie by Terry Gilliam, released in 1981. It is one of those "almost Monty-Python-movies" thanks to two other Monty Python actors joining Gilliam's project: John Cleese, playing Robin Hood, and Michael Palin playing a poor guy who keeps being reincarnated throughout history and always has the worst love life. This movie is part of the "Imagination Trilogy" of Gilliam, meant to represent the "childhood imagination" - alongside the dark movie "Brazil", for "adult imagination", and Gilliam's adaptation of the Adventures of the Baron Münchausen, for "old man imagination".

I love Time Bandits. It isn't just that I love, I adore it. This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and it was such a huge part of my childhood it literaly shaped my imagination in many, many ways. It is still to this day one of my favorite movies, with such a unique feeling I couldn't find anywhere else but in other Gilliam-related or Python-related movies.

It is one of these rare things where I can say I am really a huge fan. I bought the Criterion Collection DVD, I bought the official script-book, I went online to find alternate versions of the scripts which contained deleted scenes NOT in the official script-book...

I even chose this movie as the subject of my presentation for my high school diploma, doing a full analysis of it that gave me a very good grade. I am really in love with this piece.

NOW if you haven't heard about it, a trailer was released for an Apple + series of (10 episodes I think?). "2024 Time Bandits". A remake by Taika Waititi (among others but he is the main guy behind this).

I had heard of this project a long time ago because Waititi's desire to do something Time Bandits related has been around since his glory days with "What we do in the shadows". He kept speaking about how much he loved Time Bandits and how he wanted to do something related to it.

... I never realized he meant doing a remake a it. Time Bandits has so much potential for sequels or prequels or alternate takes or whatever cinematic terminology you have.

Now, that being said, I don't mind a remake. Waititi has proven to have good ideas and cool projects, and he seemed to really be a fan of the original - plus it was a project he had been dragging for quite some times, so I had still some interests and hopes...

... and then the trailer came out. And I saw it. And...

... You know it will be the first time in my life I will turn into one of those angry Internet ranters mad about a remake of their favorite thing. Never in my life before I was involved on a personal level with disliking a remake but OH BOY here I am.

There are so many things BAD with this trailer. Not wrong. BAD. I don't dislike all about the trailer... But I dislike most of it, and I don't just "dislike" it as in "Oh yeah, they could have done better", no, we are talking about a "I DESPISE this".

Honestly it looks like the people behind this series considered everything that made Time Bandits unique and powerful and cool and weird... and decided to remove it to make it bland, flat and... a sort of flavorless, mass-marketable Americanized modern vaguely super-hero like movie (did Waititi's experience on the Thor movies screwed his imagination THAT badly?)

I literaly do not understand how someone so hellbent and so dedicated to Time Bandits could create a product that looks like was designed by people who only vaguely heard of the original movie's plot. Because the people who made this series clearly did NOT understood the heart, soul or goal or the movie.

I heard something about Terry Gilliam being hired as an executive producer, coming on the set for a planned three months, but leaving abruptly after only three days and never returning. And people concluded that it was because he was pissed off. Seeing the trailer, I am inclined to believe he was.

picture this: its freshman year, at a pretty populated high school in the south. I, a little gay baby at the time who didn't realize I was a boy yet had just moved there from overseas (the Middle East to be exact)

As one does when you're still figuring yourself out, I buried myself in a security blanket of clothes, specifically, a black trenchcoat I owned. I wore this because I liked how it looked, and I wished I was JD from Heathers the musical. i also dyed the ends of my hair purple, because, of course I did

I had a pet snake at the time! a sweet baby ball python named Spark because he was a fire spark morph! he was my everything. I had wanted a pet snake for years at that point, ever since I saw one at the zoo on my birthday

so, I told my few other gay friends at school about my pet snake. I wished I could show him to them properly, I lamented, but me and my family weren't fully moved in, and they also sucked, so I didn't want to invite anyone over.

then came my brillient idea. I should bring him to school! No one else would notice, he's just a small baby, he can fit in my bag easy peasy. He's a snake, so there's not too much worry about how hed use the bathroom or eat- he only ate once a week.

so, I brought him to school, in a little black drawstring bag. I managed to make it to my first class before someone else found out.

"... yeah but you gotta calm down. he cant hurt you, see! he's small and friendly!"

unsurprisingly this was not very effective. They immediately began to freak out, at which point, I start getting nervous. snake update! (at last)

So! I joined my university’s reptile physiology research lab a few months ago (it’s been really cool and fun and fulfilling so far but that’s a separate post). And one day, my professor (/faculty advisor/interim dean/whatever the appropriate title is idk. everyone just calls her by her first name anyway) sends this message in the lab groupme:

as far as I see it, the story is that a kid (~17yo) got the snake, but couldn’t keep it since his dad’s lease specified no pets 😔 so the family reached out to my advisor to try and rehome it.

now see, I love snakes, but I don’t know as much about ball pythons as I do about corn snakes (I was researching snake care and doing all the planning for Ophelia for *years* before I actually got her, which is what led me to being so passionate about herpetology in the first place), so I was hesitant to volunteer, especially on such short notice.

I didn’t want to make an impulsive decision and regret it later, so I messaged a whole bunch of people (including my girlfriend, my mom, my housemates, several online friends, and other people in the lab), but everyone I talked to about it encouraged me to get the snake, citing the fact that I already have experience with keeping snakes (I’ve had Ophelia since October) and that I actually had the capacity to take it in (other people wanted to, but couldn’t due to circumstance).

so I volunteered.

I had also volunteered to go to an outreach event with my advisor just a few days later, so we stopped by after the event to pick up the tank and I was able to bring her home! the tank fits perfectly on my desk right next to Ophelia.

I had assumed it was a male since that’s how other people were referring to it, but based on the length of it’s tail I think it’s a female. I also tried the “popping” method and didn’t see any hemipenes, but I’m not too experienced with that so I could be wrong. All this to say, I originally named her Horatio, but the name didn’t really stick.

(for the record, I’m not against giving a female snake the name of a male character, gender is a social construct and the snake literally would not care, but she just didn’t seem like a Horatio. I did the same thing with Ophelia when I first got her.)
